Synthetic Love by Christina Hart

Hello word nerds!! Happy fall! I decided to read Christina Hart’s newest book because two of my favorites love her work. I have read her other novel and wasn’t too excited but I figured she was definitely worth another shot!

Alan Shaden may look like your average Tinder crush – 6’2”, dark hair, dark eyes, dimples – but with his rugged exterior comes a soft and battered heart, and his biggest secret (literally), which he keeps hidden in the back of his closet.

Alan doesn’t stop to think he’s a sex addict until a therapist deems him one, but that’s right before they have sex in her office. Alan isn’t the best man. He’s the first to admit it, but he’s trying to be better. It’s not easy having good intentions and compulsive desires at the same time.

As Alan’s layers peel away, you come to know the worn soul beneath the man. The traumatic childhood tragedies that have made him this way. A troubled past can shape you, or break you, and Alan is teetering somewhere in between. But he’s a gentleman at heart, hiding a dark past, and a life-size, synthetic secret.

Sabrina is a doll. She can’t move. She can’t talk. She can’t kiss Alan back like a real woman can. She can’t even tell him she loves him. But what she can do for him is something no woman has ever done before: she can stay. Who said love had to be with a real person for it to be real?

I’m not going to lie you guys, I fully went in not expecting much from this book but the premise was so intriguing so I figured why the heck not? I am so glad I did!

Alan was the best point of view and this story would have lost all meaning done from anyone else’s POV for sure. We get to see the thought process and how hard Alan worked to be “normal” and I found myself on more than one occasion rooting for him to get everything he wanted. This unique perspective on a taboo subject was perfect and I can’t recommend this book enough.

Alan was a character that on the surface lacked depth, just a playboy who may be a sex addict, but as we go through a journey with him to discover what’s really going on we find out he just wants to find someone to live life with. I feel like we live in a time where we just want to fit in and not be considered weird by our peers and forget that our normal doesn’t look the same as our neighbors. This journey to trying to find love and acceptance was a surprise that I’m so glad I got to experience!

Christina Hart wrote an amazing book and I would suggest you don’t let the description hold you back- this book was a great read!
